The Dating BCS: Strength of Schedule

As flawed and subjective as the system is, the college football Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and the dating game have a few similarities. Teams are ranked based on program strength, quality wins, and strength of Schedule amongst others. similarly, people in the dating game are evaluated on similar tenants of perceived quality, dating accomplishments, and strength of those dated in the past. As we want to be seen as a highly valued bachelor/bachelorette, we should understand that it is very qualitative in nature. With that said, its funny to me how some people seem to spend a lot of time hurting their rank by diminishing their strength of schedule.

Lauren, Pre-Weezy F's Baby
For those that do it naturally by dating people that add little value to their line up of accomplishments or quality of ex's, they are getting what they deserve when their perceived quality goes down (Prime examples; Hoops' value plummeted when she kissed Flavor Flav.  Lauren London's did as well when she let Lil' Wayne knock her up).  This is the market correcting itself, as these people who make bad decisions are being devalued.  Not saying that they are no longer desirable...just tarnished. To keep with the BCS example, a team will drop in the rankings if they have a cupcake schedule and don't destroy the weaker teams.  It shows that they aren't what we thought they were.

On the other hand, you have people that will just try to downgrade the people they've dated, falsely decreasing their strength of schedule, and hurting their rank in the process.  This makes zero sense to me.  Motivations for bad mouthing an ex can range from being dumped, mistreated, jealousy, etc. Sometimes the advertising of their shortcomings can be justified, but trying to tell the world why your ex aint shit isn't helping you out at all.  If these claims are false, then you are just devaluing your own strength of schedule and proving yourself to be a liar (Nobody likes a liar).  Do you think LSU would go out and try to make people think Alabama is a bad team after they barely beat them?  Of course not, they want the voters to see Alabama as an elite team, so it can more easily be argued that the team that beat them is also elite & superior.  It's like they are willing to trade their own position to ensure that their ex drops as well.  Crabs in a bucket.

I guess people don't consider the fact that every negative you falsely put on a former significant other, you are putting on yourself two-fold.  Especially when the accusations that come after the relationship are a complete 180 degree turn around from what was being said during the relationship.  You can't brag about your chick's cooking throughout the relationship and then turn around and say it was like eating luke-warm baby sweat as soon as yall break up.  Even if the cooking was bad, you're a dumb ass for lying about it instead of giving constructive criticism or just not letting her cook for you.  This just highlights the pettiness of the person and let's others know that they will alter the truth (Read: Lie like a bitch) when they feel it will benefit them.  While these actions may falsely decrease their strength of schedule, it will accurately highlight the amount of growing up needed to start handling the creation and cessation of relationships like an adult.

  2. Jay-Z summed it up well: "If you put crabs in a barrel to ensure your survival, you gon' end up pullin' down n***as that look just like you." Great blog, Brodie. More people need to read this.

  5. I admit I had to google BCS to familiarize myself with the comparison. I find it comical that the government was trying to intervene to change the way the program is structured earlier this year. Really??
Anyway... From what I gleaned from the articles I read, this is an interesting comparison. Funny and thoughtful.

  6. Thanks, Reecie. The BCS is a flawed system and most of the actual bowls aren't as charitable as they claim to be. Real Sports did a good story on it, you should check for it.
