The Dating BCS: Strength of Schedule

  As flawed and subjective as the system is, the college football Bowl Championship Series (BCS) and the dating game have a few similarities. Teams are ranked based on program strength, quality wins, and strength of Schedule amongst others. similarly, people in the dating game are evaluated on similar tenants of perceived quality, dating accomplishments, and strength of those dated in the past. As we want to be seen as a highly valued bachelor/bachelorette, we should understand that it is very qualitative in nature. With that said, its funny to me how some people seem to spend a lot of time hurting their rank by diminishing their strength of schedule.

  For those that do it naturally by dating people that add little value to their line up of accomplishments or quality of ex's, they are getting what they deserve when their perceived quality goes down (Prime examples; Hoops' value plummeted when she kissed Flavor Flav.  Lauren London's did as well when she let Lil' Wayne knock her up).  This is the market correcting itself, as these people who make bad decisions are being devalued.  Not saying that they are no longer desirable...just tarnished. To keep with the BCS example, a team will drop in the rankings if they have a cupcake schedule and don't destroy the weaker teams.  It shows that they aren't what we thought they were.

Debate: I'm Just Saying, You Can Do Better

  This year has seen a lot of relationship milestones for my friends. 3 weddings, anniversaries, new relationships, exiting old relationships, etc. My close friends & I sometimes discuss our relationships (or casual situations) and give opinions/advice/motivation where applicable.  One thing that I will not do, however, is say that someone can do better based on my opinion of their significant other.  That lead me to ask the question:

Is it ever truly appropriate to tell someone they can do better?

How Long Before TI Returns to Jail? **Updated: 9/6/11**

***Update: I'd like to congratulate the winner, Royce Anthony (@Tree_Phiddy)! When asked how he knew when TI would return to jail (within 24 hours) he replied "the key was to not underestimate a hood nigga's stupidity."***


  Call me negative...but I don't think this is the last time TI will be in jail.  Listening to the things he says (usually after being arrested) sound like he knows right from wrong...but will do what he feels is necessary.  So, without touching on the morality/legality of his personal choices, let's skip to the fun part and predict when he'll be arrested again!

  Baggage.  For those that don't know, emotional baggage is the term used for the idiosyncrasies we develop from our past relationships.  Everybody has them, but everybody carries them differently.  A show-stopper with one person could be a minor annoyance with another.  So I'm thinking that the airlines have the right idea on how much baggage to allow in your 757 of love jet-fueled relationShip mile-high club of monogamy ...relationships (Puns aren't easy, get off my back).

Rant: Natural Hair & The Token Black Actor

As an African-Canadian/American, I feel like it's patronizing whenever I see a black person in an ad with a natural hairstyle

What do you mean "Natural Hair"?
  Natural hair is gaining popularity amongst black women and lazy black men.  Looking to return to their more Afro-centric roots (No pun intended...no matter how nappy they are) or just to keep healthier hair by not using chemicals to straighten it, more and more women are jumping on the natural band-wagon...and I'm fine with that.  Black men usually don't have processed hair anymore (Think Jheri-curls, s-curls, & Al Sharpton), outside of Luster's Pink Lotion & Murray's hair grease (Which could probably stop a bullet if shot into the can).  Growing out one's hair has become popular for many through their teenage and twenty-something years.  I have no issue with having healthier hair and/or wanting to be more true to your ethnic roots with your hairstyle choice...But with that said, a messy natural hairstyle looks sloppy & dirty to me (Exhibit A).

  Social networking has been around forever...literally.  The locations & list of approved electronic devices has grown, but it's nothing new.  I remember some of the other sites I would frequent to see what was new with my friends & flirt with girls:

 This was the first sight I can remember craving.  All the users were my demographic, so it was easy to connect with them.  It had the best built in games that weren't obnoxious.  If I wanted to know how well Rico was doing on the monkey bars, I just had to walk over and find out.  If I wanted some multi-player games, I could play tag or get on the merry-go-round.  Site security was an issue sometimes though, as I had to get parental permission to access it, I had to watch out for pedo's offering candy, & I could easily pick up a virus from the hardware.  Not sure when...but I just outgrew it.

3 Factors Why People Oppose The "Ground Zero Mosque"

  There is a lot of debate right now about whether or not a mosque (also reported as a Muslim community center, but in the grand scheme of things, it matters not) should be allowed to be built at ground zero of the September 11th terror attacks.  The pro side is trying to hold true to the 1st amendment to the constitution that promotes religious freedom in this country. The opposing side views this as a slap in the face of the 9/11 victims' families & survivors as the idea of an Islamic center on the site of a terror attack carried out by people of the Islamic faith is like saying the terrorists won (Background articles: Fox News & CNN).  Each side has been very passionate about their stance. Passion, however can also be used to cover ignorance.

  I feel like the opposing side's argument (in some cases, not every) can be boiled down into 3 factors which are as follows:

3 Reasons Why I Dislike Twitter

  I Hate dislike Twitter. I use it, but I feel like I'm forced to because a lot of my friends use it.  Whenever I check my time line, I'm always assaulted with the same issues that reinforce my distaste for the social networking soup de jour.  Here are some of my main annoyances:

1. Good Concept, Poor Execution
  The idea of Twitter makes sense, a free flowing sea of information generated by the users for the users.  But in action, this simplistic goal is bogged down and diluted by it's own technical shortcomings.  Any website that can only be tolerated by using a third party application has a major design flaw.  Nobody...well, nobody that knows how to set the timer on their microwave tweets via Twitter.  Whether it be Peep, Echofon, Tweetdeck, Twitdroid, Spaz, or whatever the hell you use...A home-grown solution is needed to make the site more bearable. Using one of these is like knowing how to swim before you jump in the ocean...if not, you bound to drizzown.

  My biggest problem is the fact that debates & conversations are very difficult to follow (no pun intended).  If you aren't following everybody that's involved in the discussion, you instantly missed everything they've added unless you go "Dog the bounty hunter" style and start checking the replies. If that person has protected tweets, then it's just a lost cause.  The other way around this is by re-tweeting what you are responding to. This method leaves you in a maze of @So&So, #'s, & RTs that will make it unclear who said what...all while trying to get a full thought across withing the 140 character cap.

  Speaking of the 140 character cap: it seems like the creators and the users have two different opinions of what should be tweeted.  The creators seemed to have intended for a quick, succinct statement of what you are doing or what you are thinking.  The users, however, use it differently. This often happens, where the designer will give people a tool and expect it to be used one way, but then the users take that tool to a new, higher level by making it more functional than planned.  This, however, is a gift and a curse.

 Over the past decade social media & instant communication has exploded. From chat rooms, to MySpace, to texting, to Facebook, to Blogging, to Tweeting...each medium opened up a whole new level of interactivity between friends and strangers.  When blogging first got popular, everybody had an "internet journal" of some sort, sharing their favorite recipes, masturbatory strategies, and what have you. When Twitter came along and introduced "Micro-Blogging", it captured the hearts and short attention spans of the casual bloggers.  Now free from the thought and effort that is considered to go into creating a meaningful, thought-provoking or self serving blog post: these users were free to tell the world about what was happening in their life at this exact moment...no matter how mundane or trivial...in 140 characters or less.
